We were sorry to receive a letter from Mrs Sue Billinge advising of the death of Ian on 1st March 2009. She wrote "Ian was hugely active in this community (Crowcombe, Taunton in Somerset), not only as a reader to 6 parishes in the Benefice but for setting up and running a Community Car Scheme, helping to set up and run a community shop and, as tower captain, raising enough to have our ring of 6 bells restored and re-hung though by then he was too ill to ring himself. The hole he has left is very obvious and he had so much more to offer. You must have done well with him at Liverpool College as he was always full of ideas most of which were carried through to fruition. I know he always spoke admiringly of the College and obviously enjoyed his time there."
Ian clearly followed in the great tradition of OLs who give much public service and of which we should all be very proud.
