Our History and our Future
The Old Lerpoolian Society was founded in 1894 as the Liverpool College Old Boys Union. Its main objectives were:-
"to promote union and good fellowship between old pupils, masters, past and present, governors and others connected to the College and to support the College through bursaries, exhibitions, prizes, etc"
The OL Society is incorporated under the Companies Act and exists independently of the Liverpool College Foundation. Whilst having that independence, it has an explicit aim of maintaining strong links with the College and being strongly supportive of the School.
Throughout its long history the OL Society has supported the College at vital times in its development.
OLs have made eminent marks in Industry, Commerce, Politics, the Arts, the Law, the Church, Medicine, Academia, the Armed Services, the Media and Sport.
We can be proud of the traditions of our Society and the contributions our members have made to their communities, cities and country in many varied ways.
The way in which we can honour the achievements of the past is by ensuring that the Society flourishes in the present and into the future. It is in our hands as present day OLs.
Life in general has changed dramatically since 1894 and the College has radically changed to meet the needs of modern times - a leading, competitive, independent educational establishment, with co-education from 3 to 18 years.
Whilst retaining the spirit of the Society's Constitution as set out by our founders, today, the OL Society seeks to adapt its activities to current needs and to introduce fresh ideas and new blood for the future.
What we do
The main aims of the Society today can be summarised as:-
1. To facilitate news, contact and reunions between OLs
2. To maintain strong links with and support for the College, upholding its name and reputation through our activities.
Our immediate objectives
1. To continue to have two main events each year - The Annual Dinner and the AGM - and to encourage and support the on-going activities of the London Branch, the Golfing Society and the Masonic Lodge.
2. To encourage the younger generations of OLs to join in our activities and particularly lady OLs.
3. To explore the possibilities for having other events and activities which will refresh interest in membership of the Society and lend support to the objectives above.
